EAC Anthem

We were used to singing our Kenyan National Anthem that i must confess not many know it; and if they know it they confuse it. Regional integration however has brought us closer with the East African Community making us One People, One Destiny. Until recently it was emphasized that we shall not only be singing our national anthem but add the EAC one to the mix.

Adopted on 3rd December 2010, this anthem Wimbo wa Jumuiya Afrika Mashariki
brought an end to a long search for a song the East Africans would call their own. This urges East Africans to pursue the virtues of hardwork, unity and patriotism while cultivating spirit of comradeship. Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda and us Kenyans make up the EAC.

The problem with us Kenyans is that no matter how well we cram things, we forget so easily and the “whatever/ who cares/i don’t give a damn” attitude is what drives most of us. Students however will be good at this as they hoist flags every week and it will be a walk in the park. What of us who are not in schools? As we attend public forums and stand attention, shall we drop dead silent not even a hum from a “I’ve been memorizing it” chap shall be heard?

This is a challenge to everyone of us and instead of criticizing, learn first then complain later.

Am kind enough to let you know what it says:

Chorus
Jumuiya Yetu sote tuilinde
Tuwajibike tuimarike
Umoja wetu ni nguzo yetu
Idumu Jumuiya yetu.

1. Ee Mungu twaomba ulinde
Jumuiya Afrika Mashariki
Tuwezeshe kuishi kwa amani
Tutimize na malengo yetu.

2. Uzalendo pia mshikamano
Viwe msingi wa Umoja wetu
Natulinde Uhuru na Amani
Mila zetu na desturi zetu.

3. Viwandani na hata mashambani
Tufanye kazi sote kwa makini
Tujitoe kwa hali na mali
Tuijenge Jumuiya bora.
